Everything Microsoft prescribes for study appears in this book. You ought to be familiar with a lot of it if you've used NT before. First, the authors cover the installation of NT Workstation (including preliminary hardware qualifications) and the subsequent establishment of users, groups, policies, and other configuration options. Later chapters discuss the particular subsystems that NT Workstation comprises, including the file systems, security managers, network architectures, and printing. The book covers enough TCP/IP to enable you to connect an NT Workstation box to a network. The guide also explores important Remote Access Services in detail. Throughout, the authors explain subjects with a readable mix of prose and procedures.
Those who already know NT Workstation but want to get a feel for the exam itself will appreciate the multiple-choice review questions and exercises (the NT equivalent of essay questions) that wrap up each chapter. Answers to the questions and suggested solutions to the exercises appear on the companion CD-ROM. The CD-ROM also includes excellent quiz software that simulates the actual exam format. --David Wall
