About the Author:

D.L. LEPIDUS is a freelance critic and editor who has covered the New York theater scene for more than twenty-five years. Since 1993, his work has appeared in theater columns for Chelsea Clinton News and the Westsider.

The scenes in this book have been drawn from the best plays published or produced during the 2004�€"2005 theatrical season. All are from published, readily available plays (see the Rights and Permissions section at the back of this book for publisher information). Many of the scenes herein are by playwrights of considerable reputation, such as Howard Korder, Nilo Cruz, Stephen Adly Guirgis, and Wendy MacLeod. Others are by future stars such as Julian Sheppard, Eric Coble, Tristine Skyler, John C. Picardi, and Mark Schultz. Most are scenes with characters under forty. I made a conscientious effort this year to find some terrific scenes for teen actors, such as those from Common Ground, Schoolgirl Figure, and Everything Will Be Different. In short, this is the best darn scene book I could put together.
