About the Author:
Henry David Thoreau dedicated his life to preserving his independence. Walden is a record of his experiment in simple living near Walden Pond from 1845 to 1847. In it, he contemplates the wonders of nature and the ways of man. On the Duty of Civil Disobedience is Thoreau's classic protest against government's interference with individual liberty, an essay that has inspired non-violent resistance worldwide.
