About the Author:

Mike Cameron was born and raised in Georgia. He made his major league debut on August 27, 1995 with the Chicago White Sox. He was traded to the Seattle Mariners for Ken Griffey Jr. before the 2000 season. Regarded as one of the best center fielders in baseball, Cameron has appeared in one All Star game and two post seasons.

Greg Brown has co-authored more than 15 books with superstar athletes. A former sports reporter for the Seattle Post Intelligiencer, he lives in Bothell, Washington.

Grade 3-5-In this motivational autobiography, Cameron explains how self-confidence, open-mindedness, and teamwork are the keys to success. The ballplayer has certainly experienced a few setbacks, almost losing his sight in the minor leagues when a fly ball fractured his eye socket, and enduring a batting slump in the majors. Nonetheless, as recently as 2001, the outfielder played in the All-Star game. The first-person text is full of sincere sentiment but is unfocused, with too much extraneous material bogging down the message. The related Web site, although it contains an up-to-date journal for the year 2002, has many inoperable sections. However, the book is full of attractive, colorful photographs that show the athlete on and off the field, and fans may just pick up on some of this player's positive energy.
