Gr 1-3--Each of these brief, almost pamphlet-length books focuses on a different aspect of the sport. Double-page spreads contain one or two simple paragraphs that explain one aspect of the game and a diagram or, more often, bright, full-color pictures of young players (always boys) demonstrating the technique under discussion. Some of the books suffer from omissions. Pitching, for example, has a page on the wind-up and even throwing a curve (something most young players should probably try to avoid), but nothing on the stretch. Of course, the more serious problem is that each topic is treated in a separate title. Stick with the tried-and-true books that cover all of the bases.
