About the Author:

DIANE GONZALES BERTRAND is the author of numerous books for children, including Family Familia (Piñata Books, 1999), The Last Doll/La última muñeca (Piñata Books, 2001), Sip, Slurp, Soup, Soup/Caldo, caldo, caldo (Piñata Books, 1997), and Uncle Chente’s Picnic/El picnic de Tío Chente (Piñata Books, 2001). A lifelong resident of San Antonio, she teaches at St. Mary’s University, where she is also Writer in Residence.

Born in Caracas, Venezuela, ALEX PARDO DeLANGE was raised there and in Buenos Aires, Argentina before coming to the United States, where she graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. She now lives in Gainesville, Florida with her husband and three children. In addition to her art for the Pepita Series with Ofelia Dumas Lachtman, she is also the illustrator of Tina and the Scarecrow Skins/Tina y las pieles de espantapájaros (Piñata Books, 2000), by Ofelia Dumas Lachtman, and Sip, Slurp, Soup Soup/Caldo, caldo, caldo (Piñata Books, 1997), by Diane Gonzales Bertrand.
