From School Library Journal:
PreSchool-2-In this quiet book, a youngster (could be a boy or a girl), sick in bed for a day, looks out the window at a nearby apartment building and the street below. He watches all the activity from morning to late day, when his friends come to visit. The cover resembles the tall, rectangular window, partially shaded, through which the child peers. The scenes are painted exactly as they would appear from the window, cropping part of the street close to his own house, half of a window, and a door. Each full-page watercolor on textured paper faces a page with an expanse of white and two to four lines of text at the bottom. The composition is open and uncluttered, and the shapes are simple and flat so that the details are easily seen. The text consists primarily of simple, declarative sentences: "Look, a woman is feeding her bird;" "I wish I could go to school today;" "Look, the woman is so sad." Although the story is spare, the illustrations extend the text so that there is much for observant readers to see. To indicate the passage of time, shadows progressively shift from left to right. This is a good choice for one-on-one sharing or independent reading; the details of the illustrations are too small for large groups to appreciate. Children will want to open this book-and look.
