About the Author:
Founded in 1947, Hal Leonard LLC has become the worlds largest print music publisher, representing some of the greatest songwriters and artists of all time. We are proud to publish titles of interest to all musicians as well as music lovers, from songbooks and instructional titles to artist biographies and instrument price guides to books about the music industry and all the performing arts.
From Booklist:
The Women's Project was founded in 1978 by director Julia Miles to help female playwrights and directors flourish in a (still) male-dominated field. In its first 12 years, the project produced more than 50 plays, published 4 anthologies, and staged hundreds of readings. Collecting 5 plays by writers associated with the project, Miles provides a sampling of the range and variety of drama by women today, from a touching two-person chamber play (Aye Aye Aye I'm Integrated by Anna Deavere Smith) to the libretto of an epic opera based on the life of painter Frida Kahlo by Magdalia Cruz and Hilary Blecher. Perhaps all the plays will not be to everyone's taste, and those who prefer their drama apolitical will be especially offended by the anthology's staunch feminist stance. The feminism is a strength, not a weakness, though, and an anthology that tries to be all things to all people ultimately appeals to no one in particular. Jack Helbig
