How do Western Canadians see the national community - and how do they regard themselves? In concise and readable fashion this book explores the perspective of Canadians living in Canada's four western provinces on such issues as bilingualism and multiculturalism, free trade, populist currents of thought, separatism in Quebec, and separatism in the West. While this book is informed by an historical understanding of Western difference, its focus is on contemporary developments ranging from the popularity of the Reform Party to the influence of social and cultural movements such as feminism and environmentalism.
