K-Gr 3--In this outlandish tale, no one--not the fisherman, a dentist, a policeman, or the mayor--can get a fish to give back Uncle Farley's False Teeth after his niece accidentally drops them in the water. Walsh's text is uninspired, and the large, colorful, and humorous illustrations can't carry the story alone. Oh yes--the fish gives the teeth back. He spits them out when he discovers that they had been in someone else's mouth! It's the funniest part of the story, but it's not enough reason to buy this book. If you want an outrageous, well-written tale about false teeth, buy additional copies of Rod Clement's Grandpa's Teeth (HarperCollins, 1998).
