Synopsis

Compelled by their desire to own land, Jorgen Halvorson and his younger brother, Andrew, have made plans to emigrate from Norway to America against their parents wishes. Their adventures are set in the mid 1800’s, a time when the prospects of buying land to farm in their beloved homeland are non-existent. A difference of opinion divides the brothers. Andrew, the younger, more impetuous one leaves Jorgen behind to deal with the uncertainties of his decision. The two meet up before Andrew sails to America, but circumstances have left Jorgen, once again, unprepared to join his brother. Andrew sets sail without him. Jorgen eventually makes the crossing, but not before coming face to face with life changing and harrowing events. Their story, like the stories of all immigrants, matches the heartache of leaving home with the desire for a better life, the perils of the unknown with the excitement of new vistas, and the age old battle of good versus evil.

About the Author:

Virginia Scholl Hanson grew up in Edison Park on Chicago’s northwest side. She graduated from Northern Illinois University with degrees in Elementary Education and Speech Correction, and previously worked as a teacher and tutor. The love and energy of a large family finds its way into Virginia’s many creative passions. She is one of seven cherished siblings and finds great joy in her four children and nine grandchildren, who visit frequently with Ginny and her husband in Barrington, Illinois. In addition to writing, she also enjoys singing, painting, gardening, golf, and attending family reunions. Journey Home is her first novel.
