These two contemporary South African plays portray with humor and grit the real life struggles of everyday people. Veil explores what happens when a Somali shopkeeper immigrates to South African and falls in love with a local woman. Ghetto Goats depicts the harsh realities of homelessness, poverty, and sexual violence in the lives of three men who sleep in a park. These stories, though dark, are not without humor and hope.

About the Author:
Zwai Mgijima has been active in theatre as an actor, playwright, and director since 1990 when he was taken under the wing of Winston Ntshona, who along with actor John Kani and playwright Athol Fugard brought the anti-apartheid struggle to stage and screen with such international hits as The Island and Sizwe Bansi is Dead. Mgijima and Ntshona are residents of New Brighton, the first officially black residential area in Port Elizabeth (established 1903), and a community with a rich history of political activism.
