Evan Jones has come from Wales with his brothers to work in the Copper Mule Mine of Bisbee, Arizona Territory. When tragedy strikes, a Mexican curandera known only as The Seņora saves their lives. Evan's indiscretions cause her to leave abruptly, disappearing from Bisbee without a clue. Reyna Svenson is a widow with remarkable healing skills, an adopted sister and Beloved Woman of the Apache, who doesn't quite know how to cope with Evan Jones. His animal spirit, or totem, is strange to her, for his is the Dragon, ancient fearful enemy of her own totem, the Hawk. Elements of Fire and Wind, their spirits could combine into great enlightenment--or ignite an inferno of destruction. From the brothels of Tombstone and the gambling halls of Silver City to the stark, isolated beauty of Sabino Canyon, Evan and his brothers struggle to build new lives amid wild adventures, earning the animosity of a notorious outlaw out for blood.

Reviews of the Dragon & Hawk saga:

Thisbook has the stuff of films about it.
-- Roy Noble, BBC Radio Wales

Dragonand Hawk is an intriguing tale of romance andadventure setin the late nineteenth century. Jones' many adventures, includingbeing stalked by a dangerous outlaw, make the book a thrillingread. The conflicting symbols of the characters' folklores, whichare subtly woven into the story's tapestry, make this exciting taleunique and interesting.
--BookWire Review

"Johnson's knowledge of the history of Arizona helps her bring the stories alive, and several of the background characters are based upon actual historical figures... Overall, this fast-paced read is recommended and particularly suitable for readers who enjoy a blend of Western history, action, and romance."
--  Nanette Donohue,  Historical Novel Society
About the Author:
Jude Johnson is a writer with a passion for historical research, details, and languages. The smell of parchment, old leather, and glue bindings makes her giddy. It is her attention to accuracy that infuses her stories with authenticity, letting the reader step into those dusty streets of Tombstone or onto the pitching deck of a frigate of Nelson's Navy. She has studied Welsh, speaks bad border Spanish, and loves learning new words to yell while driving through construction zones. She is a member of Gecko Gals Ink, a fabulous group of five authors in Tucson who are "differently expertised." She lives in Tucson with her long-suffering family who have endured many charred meals while she's in a writing frenzy.
