Working conditions and pay were terrible and it took over a century of struggles to achieve a decent wage and better working conditions.

About the Author:
Colin Ross was a docker in London's Royal Group of Docks. He was elected as a shop steward and became chairman of the shop stewards committee. He along with other shop stewards threw everything they had into a campaign to get their rightful work back. They chose to go unofficial after the unions failed to act.
