Narrated in the voice of a baby from the moment of conception, through development within the womb, birth, and learning about growing up, loving, understanding and appreciating, we learn many of the ins and outs of a teen girl trying to handle telling her mother that she is pregnant, meeting with resistance and abuse from the father of the child and copying with the need to build a life not only for herself, but for her baby. With the number of teen pregnancies on the rise and the number of babies being reared by teen mothers, a stereotype has been born picturing this as a sort of hopelessness phenomenon; however, that is not always true. In this work, we meet a 16-year-old girl who becomes pregnant on Prom night when her date confesses his love for her. Little did she know that she would have to change all of her life's plans to make way for this baby whom she elected to keep and rear while completing high school and college and establishing a professional career for herself. Through the words and observations of the child from the MOMENT of conception our eyes are opened to some of the problems faced by a teen mother without the support of her baby's father as she faces her parents, church and society as an unmarried expectant mother. The strength and wisdom of her parents as they vow to stand with her and offer their full support she finds that her church family stands with her as well. Through her Mother and Father as well as her Pastor and friends, she comes to realize that the decision she must make about the baby is paramount: she can elect to abort the baby (get rid of it), offer it for adoption (give it away), or keep it. The research leading to her decision is vital. The father of the baby becomes abusive and demands that she abort the child. In deciding to keep it, rear it, and give it a good life, she grows up quickly. Ahead is the need for an education which will allow her to provide for the baby with a worthwhile career, and the knowledge that she has lost not only her virginity but her innocence. The road she chooses is difficult, but she manages to navigate it for the sake of her child. So, today's single mothers are not only the stereotype presented in the media, but many of them are mature, hard-working women who learn to be strong--strong enough to make a family, provide for their elderly parents and find that tomorrow has been worth it all. They can break that glass ceiling in more ways than one. Learn about Jill, her baby, Barbara Faye, and the people who make her successful.
