“What is the single most important money-making tip you would give a new singer/songwriter?” That’s the single question that began this book. It was asked to Featured Artists at The Standing "O" Project. The answers from 16 working musicians who replied are collected here. Some of the answers are single sentences. Others are pages long. Together, they offer a different take on what it means to have a music career in the 21st century. And what’s really surprising—virtually all of the advice is non-digital, real-world and do-able. Want to make a million bucks on Spotify? You’ll need a different book... But this book does offer a peek into the career of the working musician from a perspective that can easily become lost in an age of uploading, downloading, streaming, file sharing and bit torrenting. Killing It In The Streaming Age offers deceptively simple advice to making a decent living as a singer/songwriter today. It offers simple tools on how to be a working pro.

About the Author:
JOHN DILLON & VIV NESBITT John and Viv are intimately familiar with the challenges of the itinerant singer/songwriter lifestyle: they used to tour the country in a green van, playing original music in bars, coffee houses and other roadside venues. Today, John and Viv host Art of the Song Creativity Radio, a one-hour, listener-supported weekly radio program broadcast on over 150 stations across North America. They have interviewed some of the biggest names in the industry with a focus on the universal truths common to all creative expression. John is a singer-songwriter, performer, guitar maker and author. Together, he and Viv launched The Standing “O” Project, a “socially responsible streaming” site dedicated to overcoming what they see as one of the biggest inequities in the music business: despite being talented creative professionals with a profound work ethic, singer/songwriters are often shortchanged professionally. In the ‘70s, John spent a year traveling across the US and working with some legendary artists of the time. Eventually, he came to rest in New Mexico and decided to call it home. During his career, John has built more than 80 custom acoustic guitars for musicians, among them Steve Earle, Tish Hinojosa, Trisha Yearwood, and Raoul Malo of The Mavericks. Viv is a singer-songwriter, performer and actor. She has appeared on movie screens, on your TV, and on the radio with John as part of the driving force behind the country’s only radio show dedicated to singer/songwriters and creativity. She writes and plays music and gigs around northern New Mexico and on the road. Periodically, she can also be seen as the frontwoman of New Mexico’s fabulous El Rito Rhythm Kings. She also tours the world with her multiple award-winning solo play, The Bark & The Tree. The Featured Artists of The Standing "O" Project who contributed to this book are among the finest human beings on the planet.
