1949. In an Italian coastal village, Marcello Romero, the son of a poor fisherman, dreams of the beautiful Elena Gamboccini. His chances of getting her first date, when up against Armond Cessero, the son of the ice-cream magnate, are slim. Nevertheless, Marcello follows the village tradition and tries to find a gift for her father in an attempt to win his daughter’s hand. Remembering the butcher’s cockerel that wakes Elena’s father every morning, Marcello thinks he’s found the perfect present. But how is he to obtain a cockerel that no one wants to sell? And even then, at how high a price?

About the Author:
Mark David Hatwood spent fifteen years as a session drummer for some of the top names in the British music industry. He started his own band as songwriter in the mid 80’s and, in 1991, went on to record a solo album with music legend Harold Faltermeyer. Having moved to Berlin in 1993, Mark signed a publishing deal with BMG (Bertlesmann Music Group) and went on to write music for some of the foremost European pop acts. In 2002, Mark wrote Marcello’s Date and has subsequently written three other screenplays and four novels including the commissioned biography, 7 Days and 7 Nights, of inspirational speaker, The Scary Guy. In 2009, Mark was awarded an unconditional fellowship of the RSA for his environmental achievements in the UK with the CoBRA Scheme. Mark currently lives and writes in Cornwall, England whilst running The Harbour Gallery in his home village of Portscatho.
