Fr. Edward "Ned" Galvin was born in Ireland in 1882, the oldest in a family of seven children. After he was ordained to the Catholic priesthood, he realized that there were more priests in his native land than parishes. About the Author:

William E. Barrett (1900-1986), who spent much of his adult life in Colorado, wrote numerous books and short stories. His novel The Left Hand of God went into 10 translations and was made into a 1955 movie starring Humphrey Bogart. The Lilies of the Field was made into a movie in 1963 and starred Sidney Poitier.

Four of Mr. Barrett s books were purchased for films: The Left Hand of God; The Lilies of the Field; The Wine and the Music, produced as Pieces of Dreams in 1970; and The Man From Rome, which was purchased but never produced.
