A pinpoint of light crept in from the inky blackness. My mouth felt dry and I perceived a heavy iron laden taste in my mouth. The fuzzy edges of my vision closed in and let out. Bright lights danced about in the middle of the foggy haze. I opened my eyes slowly as I woke up staring at the sky wondering how long I had been out. The clouds made dark grey swirls above my face and the cold of the early fall air bit at my nose as I took the short breaths that the pain allowed me. I felt the ache in my side. It was a searing pain. It was a deep pain. Like a cramp and burn all wrapped up inside of my side. It reminded me that I had not dreamt what had just happened. About the Author:
David Arthur Stevenson is an Alaskan author. He has learned a thing or two about surviving both the Alaskan wilderness and the Alaskan critters big, small, smart or stupid. Dave's entire family has always encouraged him to publish his writings. His family also said to warn people that his stories are not for those with a weak constitution, either viscerally or mentally. But the descriptions in his stories are true to the beauty and brutality that is Alaska. His brutal epithets of human and animal nature are also based on a number of years of observations of the same. Dave does not believe in holding back on the descriptions of what a man or animal can do. So be warned. The stories are in fact fictional in nature. Any resemblance to those alive or dead is purely coincidental. SURVIVE is the first novel that Dave has published. Several others are on the way. SURVIVE was conceived and the first draft written literally in a hunting camp. It just took Dave the remaining time to complete the final extended draft and edit the novel.
