To feed the growing human population and to satisfy the insatiable quest for cheap energy, tropical rainforests across the world are being systematically burned and clearcut. The plant and animal life they hold is being driven to extinction. "Direct Action" is the story of how a small, well-organized group of people on the island of Sumatra takes up arms to stop further deforestation. With help from a trio of Western supporters, the newly created rebel army wages war against the military-backed, multinational corporations destroying their land. Their objective is to reverse the proliferation of palm oil production, logging and pulp operations, and mining interests in a desperate effort to save the last remaining acres of rainforest on their island and throughout Indonesia. This novel is intended for readers of all ages.

From the Author:
The idea for this novel formed in the summer of 2013 while traveling in Southeast Asia with my family. We experienced first hand the ecological horror brought about by the intentional burning of the Sumatran rainforests. Where we were few people ventured into the soot darkened outdoors without wearing respirators. Those who could remained indoors. People directly impacted by the fires sometimes commented that the fires wouldn't be burning for much longer because the rainforests will soon be gone. Unfortunately little is being done to stem the destruction. While traditional environmental organizations have consumed vast public and private financial resources and engaged in decades of peaceful protesting the burning has only intensified. Unless another approach is taken the Indonesian rainforests will vanish and most of the life they have nurtured for eons will go extinct. This novel describes a different kind of approach to saving the rainforests. For Sumatra, it's the only path left.
