I based much of this story on a hero named Gunnery Sgt. Francis Hugh Killeen. An Irish Marine who served with three Medal of Honor Marines in Korea. This amazing man actually played the bag pipes in the face of thousands of Chinese at Su Dong Ni. Gunny Killeen is that part of Marine Corps legend that made boys like me ache to become a Marine. His life is the envy all young Marines and writing about this man was a joy for me. Semper Fidelis!
