Maxwell L. Howell is a retired professor who earned two doctorates from Berkeley and South Africa as well as an honorary doctorate of Laws from the University of Alberta. Howell also has international and national addresses given in his honor each year. Chinese scholar Lingyu Xie earned a doctorate from the University of Queensland in Australia.
