In the period between the close of the war and 1909, the writer was too much occupied in professional and other labors to give attention to the publication of these recollections and they remained untouched, in manuscript. During 1909, however, many requests came to him from all parts of the country for copies of an address on A braham Lincoln which the writer had delivered in that year before Lehigh University, South Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
