About the Author:

The Author has led an interesting life. He has worked in a variety of fields ranging from Restaurant Management, Licensed Seaman, Educator, Journalist, and, is currently a Registered Nurse working in a Community Hospital nestled in the Adirondack Mountains. Academically he has earned a variety of degrees, which are listed in chronological order: AAA in Mass Media, BA in Communication Arts, AAS in Nursing, and finally a MS in Health Care Administration. He lives with his wife, Virginia, and their two sons, John and Seamus in the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York.

In this book, I will discuss Sick Building Syndrome (SBS). The topic of SBS is covered in depth in this book. The causes of how a building can be considered "sick" will be noted and discussed in great detail. The prevention and some solutions for your building will be discussed, if it's already deemed to be "sick". Ventilation issues that promote SBS will be broached as will some ways to help prevent or fix SBS. Chemical contamination, such as outdoor and indoor contaminants will be reviewed. Biological contamination caused by bacteria's, viruses, and molds can all play a factor and will be explained extensively. I will review methods for the prevention of SBS and offer some solutions to help your building be a more healthy place. This will benefit you and all the people who work, live, or play in the building. In the last chapter, I will explain in detail my plan for the creation of a Team to monitor your building and deal with any complaints regarding SBS. For example I like to call this group of people the air safety team (team). The responsibility of this team is to establish a program that contains all the elements necessary to manage a building with regard to healthy indoor air. You may ask yourself, why do people care if a building is considered "sick". Who cares? Why should an employer or the owner of a building care if their building is deemed "sick"? For the owner or operator of a building deemed to be sick, the symptoms may be the cause of high levels of employee sickness or absenteeism, lower productivity, low job satisfaction and high employee turnover.
