The Chicago Bears were once the face of the National Football League. Today they are one of its most popular and most fascinating franchises, selling out game after game in historic Soldier Field and stirring passions in one of America s great football cities. Read Chicago Bears: Yesterday & Today and experience the magnificent history of pro football s charter franchise and the game s most storied team.

Here are some of the fascinating stories included in Chicago Bears: Yesterday & Today:
The pivotal year 1920, when 25-year-old George Halas took a train from Decatur, Illinois where he ran a football team for starch baron A. E. Staley to Canton, Ohio, and formed the American Professional Football Association with other team owners, hammering out an agreement in an auto showroom
Halas nearly five-decade-long tenure atop the franchise, in which he oversaw eight championships, coached six title teams, and became the game s winningest coach
The careers of NFL greats and Chicago icons like mold-breaking quarterback Sid Luckman and back-breaking middle linebackers Dick Butkus, Mike Singletary, and Brian Urlacher
The age of Iron Mike Ditka, the team s most colorful coach, who won the franchise s only Super Bowl and guided colorful characters like defensive tackle William Refrigerator Perry, quarterback Jim McMahon, and defensive coordinator Buddy Ryan
The Bears trouncing of the New England Patriots in the 1985 Super Bowl and their painful performance in the 2007 game, following a dream season

From a foreword by Bears Super Bowl safety Gary Fencik to comments on the arrival of Jay Cutler probably the most talented Bears quarterback ever for the 2009 season, Chicago Bears: Yesterday & Today covers it all.

Review:
CELEBRATE YESTERDAY AND TODAY'S MONSTERS OF THE MIDWAY WITH CHICAGO BEARS: YESTERDAY AND TODAY
Now, readers everywhere can relive the exploits and the championship glory of the marvelous decade of Bears greatness in Chicago Bears: Yesterday and Today by Jeff Davis.

Chicagoans are passionate about many things, from the food they love to the wildest politics anywhere USA. Most talk and interest, however, centers on sports. All of America, except for Chicago's South Side (who love only the White Sox), is crazy about the Cubs. The Bulls in the Michael Jordan era were the most popular basketball team on the planet. Chicagoans love college football, especially the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame in nearby South Bend, IndianaÂÂ... But Chicago's true love, true passion, is, and always has been, its National Football League charter franchise, the Bears. Although he's been dead since 1983, George Halas, the founder, owner, and 40-year coach of the Bears, remains the biggest sporting name in Chicago, a character of equal standing with the late Mayor Richard J. Daley, the city's most enduring and legendary political figure. The Bears are Chicago and Chicago is the Bears. Period. No team has won more games. No team has sent more men to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. No team has boasted more defining star players over the years. Red Grange, Bronko Nagurski, Sid Luckman, Gale Sayers, Dick Butkus, Walter Payton, Mike Ditka, Mike Singletary and Brian Urlacher: each name is synonymous with football. It all started in 1920, with George Halas in central Illinois corn country. Halas proudly led a football team to Chicago and piloted the sport to popular dominance--no other sports club approaches the honor roll and legacy of his Chicago bears. --WGN News, Chicago
