But to return to our Author, I Prote/i I have perufed the Whole Volume with the greatefl lmpartiality that can he, and except his Sawcinefs and Ill-nature again/i the Houfe of Commons, and Gentlemen of thelono; Robe, I find nothing, in the whole Book that deferves any Aniinaiy'erfion evidenlfiom his Methodof' Argoi'fi'fiakfi the Medium's he nta/(eth ufi? Of to prove his Allertion, that he is altogether a Stranger to the very' State of the Contrdverfie, and that notwith/ianding hhs Confi dence in A/erting, his Boo/e dtfcovers more Ignorance, than his Preface doth Petulancy: And it és no wonder, for Ignorance and Impudence are generally Concomitant: And this is all that I thinhfit to fay/in Anfwer to hint. T he Reafion why I fichjoyn the ffilowing Difcourfe, is,hecaufe although I cannot perfwade my feif that he defervesa Refiltation, yet that Truth which he lahours to darhen with an lmpertinent Harangue, dejerves to he Cleared and de monltrated: If any shaft go about to Attacque this Difcourfe' with Drollery, or Satyrical lnvefiives, I decleare hefore - hand, I 'do not rec/(on my helf ohliged to Reply 5' I do not thin/é it a Re putation for Men of Sen'fe to 'combatflewggmthgfefleaponsh But if Occafion he I shall [end his Anfwer to the dungicarts, or oyfier-boats, from whence I douht not, hut he shas'l receive due Correétion for his Polly and Impudence, hut if he Afanli it with Reafon and Sobriety, he shall find a Defence agree'ahle. I ~mu/t' confefs I am heartily forty at the Occafion of this Difpute, it hath unhappily falen out at that Moment 0117 ime, when ahove'
