This work was undertaken for personal gratification, but as it grew in dimensions, there were many urgent requests to publish it, that others might be equally gratified.
That it may have errors, it would be unreasonable to deny, but the author has endeavored to carefully compile the information obtained from a voluminous correspondence, and those who assisted by sending their records will please accept his thanks, without being specified by name, for they are many. It has been suggested, that for future use it would be well to have all mistakes corrected. To that end, the author will carefully record and preserve any additions or corrections that may be sent to him from time to time.
