Keller, john balthasar, a celebrated artist, was born at Zurich in 1638. He learned the art of a goldsmith, in which he displayed great ingenuity, and went to Paris, by the invitation of his brother, who was can non-founder and commissary of artillery to the king of France. While in the French service he cast a great many cannons and mortars, to. Gether with the statues in the gardens of Ver sailles; but he acquired the greatest fame by the equestrian statue of Louis XIV. Erected in the place Louis le Grand, and executed after the model of Girardon: it was completed in one cast, on the rst of December, 1691, and is twenty-one feet in height. He was inspector of the foundery at the arsenal, and died at Paris in 1702. - J.
