The private estimation in which the following Let ters have been held has induced the belief that, by publication, they would be rendered more extensively useful. They were not written with any View of their being committed to the press; most of them, therefore, have been collected since the decease of the Writer, who very rarely kept copies of his letters; and it may be proper to remark that his own language has been strictly adhered to.
