At the same time, I trust that there is no breach of confidence in divulging the doings of the Novi tiate; since the object of all the discipline of train ing-houses of every description being honest and honourable, there can be no rational objection to the means being known to all the world. No promise was exacted from me to that effect; therefore, it is to be presumed, the reverend fathers were not ashamed of anything that took place in the Novitiate - at least, I hope not.
