Not illustrated. 1814 Excerpt: ... take the most eff ciuul measures for saving and seeming the same; and if need be, such person or persons shall apply to one assistant or justice of the peace, who is tafcmhy authorized to grant a warrant, directed to a proper officer, to impress and call. forth proper assistance for that purpose: And that the person or persons securing such property, suall immediately give notice thereof to the judge of the county court in the county where the same shall be secured;. who shall direct the sheriff of the said county to seize the said property, and the same keep and hold until it shall be released or disposed of by order of said court. And if any owner of such property, being a person entitled by the laws of the land, or the laws of nations, to a restoration thereof, shall within a year and a day after such seizure, appearand claim the same, it shall be restored to him, on paying such reasonable costs and salvage, for the person to whom due, as the said court shall order and allow. And in case no such owner shall, within that time appear, and claim said property and pay costs and salvage, ascertained as aforesaid, the same shall be sold by order of saidcourt, and the avails thereof (first deducting reasonable costs and salvage for the persons to whom due) shall be lodged in the treasury of this state. Provided, That if the property be of a perishable nature, the court may order the same to be sold; and also, that in any case where no owner appears in one month after seizure, to pay salvage and costs, the court may order the sale of so much thereof, as shall pay such salvage and costs.
