The bestselling author of Raising Boys brings together an eclectic range of stories of men’s experiences

By turns powerful, heartbreaking, wise, and funny, these essays and other works of nonfiction break down the narrow stereotypes associated with manhood. contributors include Peter Carey, Bill Bryson, Michael Leunig, Elliot Perlman, Leo Schofield, and Bob Ellis among others. The wide variety of perspectives include an international best-selling author looking back on a loss he ran away from, a widowed father learning to overcome his grief and demonstrate to his sons how to love again, a man caring for his aging father while living on a remote island, a young father having to choose between his sick daughter and the wrath of his boss, and a soldier reflecting on his experiences in East Timor. Written with raw honesty, insight, and humor, these stories reflect the often hidden, emotional depths of men as they face the ups and downs of life.

About the Author:
Steve Biddulph is one of the world's best-known parenting authors. He was a family psychologist for 25 years before leaving this work to campaign full time for a better world for families. His books on parenting and men include Raising Boys, Raising Girls, The Secret Life of Men, and The Secrets of Happy Childhood.
Review:
"Biddulph . . . presents here an often-brilliant gathering of writing on the exposed male self . . . There is Leo Schofield’s fine piece on his at-times Christian Brothers schooling, Peter Carey’s masterful tale of an abortion and fatherhood . . . and Bob Ellis’s utterly heartbreaking story of his mother’s passing. There is some great writing here for everyone." —Matt Condon, author, The Pillow Fight and Three Crooked Kings
