About the Author:

Kristy Kurjan is based out of Traverse City, Michigan. She is a publisher, writer, and owner of KPO Creative LLC.  She is a member of the Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA), Running In Heels Organization, and avid volunteer with Help In Heels women's charity orginization. Her most recent picture book, Nap-A-Roo, has received national awards including the 2015 Silver IBPA Benjamin Franklin Award for Best Picture Book (0-3), the 2014 Silver Moonbeam Award for Best Board Book, and was named a finalist in the 9th Annual National Indie Excellence Awards. In an effort to share the joys of her work, Kurjan has participated in various morning news shows, radio, pod casts, blogs, and print interviews. She is always up for a new adventure and enjoys meeting interesting people. Mother to identical twin boys, the fun never stops. She enjoys running, boating, traveling, and reading to her family.

"The short book, "Nap-A- Roo" by Kristy Kurjan, is about a kangaroo who lives in a zoo and is getting ready to take a nap. Parents can read this rhyming book to their toddlers when it is time for them to take a nap. The kangaroo has a blanket and teddy bear, all the things it needs for a nap. Some of the animals wave to the kangaroo as he goes to take a nap. Other animals like the lion, wolf and cow also are also getting ready for a nap. Parents can teach their toddlers about the ani- mals as they read the book to them. I would recommend this book to parents who need to help their children take naps. I would have liked it if my parents read this to me when I was younger. I think children will like the colorful and cute illustra- tions. The book mentioned a place called Timbuktu which I never heard of before. I looked it up and learned that Timbuktu is a city in Mali, which is a country in Africa. Cool! That's right. It's my favorite type of book to read at bedtime. One with rhymes. And boy does our little guy love rhyming. There's times in the car, or when he's sitting on the potty that all he wants to do is rhyme, shouting out a word ("cat!" "bat!" "rat!") and waiting for me to chime in with words that rhyme. It causes fits of giggles, and needless to say, so did the cute rhymes of "Nap-A-Roo." In fact, by the time we got to page 3 and the word "Timbuktu" he was giggling, rhyming and having a wonderful time., even anticipating some of the rhyming words to come. I was able to pause at the end of one page and he instantly knew, based on the rhyming pattern, what word was coming. A quick, brisk read, it really was a lot of fun.
