While whitewater boating anywhere lends itself to dynamic moments, Grand Canyon is truly exceptional. Flipped Out for Grand Canyon is a visual journey, recording river running over time through the Canyon's corridor. The historical pictures in this book transport the reader to the days when running the river was a risky, cutting-edge endeavor. More recent photos reflect the allure of running big water for the thrill of it. With over twenty-five thousand river runners annually tackling dozens of potentially boat-flipping rapids, the whitewater shots can be astounding. Equally, the non-whitewater images that capture the drama and magic of the natural world are spellbinding. On almost every page of Flipped Out the backdrop of the Canyon displays a supernatural, lofty, and ethereal presence, providing an unparalleled platform for photography of any style, especially whitewater boating. Perhaps no other location could spark such a diverse set of images. From river rapids and lightning bolts to flash floods and sunsets, the pages keep giving. Never before has such a collection of pictures of Grand Canyon, from so many photographers, been assembled into one book. The variety is virtually limitless. The results are timeless. So, prepare to flip the pages and get Flipped Out for Grand Canyon.

About the Author:
Tom Myers began exploring the Grand Canyon at age ten and never stopped. He has logged thousands of miles below the rim on foot and by boat, and lived within the Park for nearly a decade. He has worked as a physician at Grand Canyon Clinic since 1990 and is an amateur historian and writer. This is his fourth Grand Canyon book. Bronze Black got hooked on Grand Canyon during a geology field trip in college. It left him in awe about the Canyon s size, its geologic history, and its many convoluted mysteries. He has spent the years since exploring the Canyon and has used those experiences to produce related illustrations, maps, and books.
Review:
These images convey not only the majesty and wonder of the most iconic piece of landscape in America, but also the exuberance and the joy that the Grand Canyon can trigger among those who have given themselves over to its many seductions. There is so much in this marvelous collection that is gorgeous, startling, even revelatory; and which collectively add up to a veritable river of impressions visceral, fluid, and breathtaking that will sweep readers downstream and usher them into the secret and hidden heart of a world that those who have never known dream of one day seeing, and those who have had the privilege of seeing know only the longing to one day return. --KEVIN FEDARKO, author of The Emerald Mile
