Raising a child is not as much about doing the right things with your child as it is about being the right kind of parent! Your Child: It's Up To You! is the guidebook parents need to walk them through their children's developmental stages in the critical period of toddler to teen. It pairs the needs of their children at specific ages and stages with the corresponding parental strengths most effective for the stage. Your Child: It's Up To You! delves into a variety of practical techniques and solutions to problem-proof your child, insulating them from many common problems and reducing the typical troubles that most parents encounter. The result: you become an empowered parent. Your Child: It's Up To You! shows you how to become a Purposeful Parent - one who raises a child to be an adult who is responsible, productive, contributing and caring. It takes passion and a plan to raise a child in the 21st century. Now more than ever, being a parent is a tough job. Your Child: It's Up To You! equips parents with both the purpose and the plan. Just as blueprints are necessary in the construction of a building, this guidebook provides the family blueprint design and outline for constructing solid and dependable family relationships. No matter the family structure - a young couple joining in marriage, blended families coming together, or single or partnered parents struggling with a particular question, the challenges these families face are very similar. What often seems like an isolated difficulty is more typically a demand on the family to seriously consider its design - for parents to rely on their basic blueprint. A healthy, functional family builds a base solid enough to withstand a major blow, yet flexible enough to adapt to the changes and experiences of life. A family's blueprint is defined by, and typically only as good as the underlying principle it is founded on. Respect, defined as the act or attitude of attributing worth to another, serves as the essential property in healthy parent-child relationships or in any human relationship. Children whose parents have implemented respect in their relationship are better equipped to face challenges common to their developmental stage and unique to their life context. To respect another person means to esteem them. Self-esteem, which has become the all-important product in the current theory of child-development, is only possible with self-respect. Self-respect is the true self-esteem. A child's self-respect is the direct result of being respected by a parent or caring adult. Seven Principles of Respect are presented, each offering an explanation of its influence on healthy family relationships. Respect positively shapes and transforms children, adults, situation and environments. Respect is the solid, unchanging property that sustains the structure throughout all the childhood changes and developmental phases.
