Doug Alverton's life revolves around soccer. It s no wonder his daily routine is upended when a presidential debate comes to town, complete with Secret Service agents, national news trucks, and the accompanying uproar. The results are hilarious, and before the event is over, the sixth grader must make a choice: soccer or politics. Before long, Doug is ready to cast his vote!

In this romp of a story set in a small Kentucky town, an All-American boy gets a new perspective on democracy. Ages 8-12

About the Author:
Patsi B. Trollinger knows about the hoopla that is part of a major political event. She hosted the media hall for the 2000 Vice Presidential debate held at Centre College in the small town of Danville, Kentucky. Now writing full time for young readers, Trollinger is happy to watch from the sidelines as another debate comes to Danville during the 2012 campaign season.

Trollinger is the author of Perfect Timing, which was honored as a Junior Library Guild selection. This picture book biography tells the story of Isaac Murphy, who rose from a childhood in slavery to become one of the nation s first sports superstars.

Review:
A sixth-grade boy, whose quiet life is centered on playing soccer, has his world disrupted when his small college town is chosen to host a presidential election debate. The effects are humorous and well drawn. The political awakening of a bright young boy is a most timely story. --Blue Marble Books
