PinoChico: The Chico State Freshman is a story about the freshman experience in college. Pinny, as he is known by friends, is a human-sized marionette carved from the great Hooker Oak Tree in Chico, California. He comes to life, and is transformed temporarily by Old Wise Muzza to look like a real human boy on the outside, but under his clothes, he is still wood, except for very special parts. Pinny enrolls as a freshman at Chico State, and lives on campus in Whitney Hall. He pretends to be something he is not. He longs to be himself, to make friends, and to fit in on campus. Pinny and his trusted inner circle of friends must seek out the fairy that will transform him into a real human boy. He is in luck, for Chico is the Fairy Capital of the World.
