About the Author:
Have you ever worked with someone who is a shining star, but you didn't know it, and through a passing conversation with this person, you learn of his/her potential for greatness? I would like to share a story of such a person. Renee Taylor, the receptionist and workplace advocate in the company where we are employed, greets everyone each day with a smile and with a bubbly "hello". In one of my many conversations with Renee, she mentioned that she had written a book of short stories. I asked Renee if she would be willing to share one of her stories with me. She said, "Yes." I was blown away with her creativity. Even after reading one short story, I became curious as to what inspired her writings ... personal experiences or just a God-given gift. As I suspected, it was a God-given gift. Once, a friend of Renee's asked her what would be her dream job. There is more to Renee. She and her husband Michael have two sons (DaShawn and Antonio). Antonio (their youngest) was born with special needs. As a result of difficult challenges, Renee put her writing on hold because caring for a child with special needs and trying to write creatively were taking its toll on her. Eventually, Michael (Renee's husband) encouraged her to start writing again because he realized that her God-given talent must be shared with others. Renee is a high school graduate from St. Louis, Missouri and has had no formal training in writing. She said she has always wanted to go back to school, but was afraid of failure. She equates success with education. Little did she realize that her God-given talent could be taking her to a level of achievement that a college degree might not offer. Nonetheless, Renee enrolled in a local community college to pursue a degree in Communication Arts. Her first course was English Composition. Renee set her academic sights for completing this course with a grade of 'C.' She was so fearful of failure that if she finished with a 'C,' she would be ecstatic. However, at the end of the semester, Renee's instructor asked the students to write a short story. Renee received an 'A'. Afterwards her real motivation for writing short stories flourished. During this whole process, Renee said that she learned that her 'self-worth comes from God' and she learned to believe in herself. Biography by Kay Hartz, co-worker
