The Patrick behind St. Patrick's Day and Ireland's patron saint was a real 4th century boy stolen and sold into slavery in Ireland. In this gripping true tale, Patrick faces each of his puzzles and changes history. Based on St. Patrick's own letters, The Puzzles of St. Patrick is a creative non-fiction telling crafted with adventure and suspense for young readers and listeners. It follows The Secret of St. Nicholas, also the true story of a hero behind America's holidays.

About the Author:
Ellen Amelia Cook grew up in Fairland, Maryland, a crossroads community with great neighbors and kids, plus woods and streams for games and riding ponies. (Her borrowed pony bit, ran off, and once rolled over with her in a freezing creek but she was desperate to ride anything.) Her mother passed on a love of reading. At Western Maryland College (now McDaniel), she met her smart funny husband Ken Nibali. They settled in Woodlawn with their daughter and son, and she wrote children's stories whenever she could. She co-authored a bicentennial history of Woodlawn. Moving to West Friendship, they got hamsters, cats, and a pony that didn't bite or roll over on you. Ellen raised golden retriever puppies. The family was blessed with another son. Ellen gardened like crazy, wrote articles for The Baltimore Sun, and helped her oldest son's class write a history of West Friendship. Years later she helped her youngest son's class produce a musical history. She got her BA at the UMD Baltimore County and kept writing. She taught kids religion classes and participated in Bible studies. Now she performs characters such as Rahab the Harlot in a traveling troupe. Today Ellen works as a horticultural consultant for UMD Extension. Her gardening column appears in The Sun. She and Ken have four grandchildren and Maxi, a golden-Lab mix who, coincidentally, looks just like the dog in her first book, The Secret of St. Nicholas!
