Review:
"Reading this marvelous collection is like joining an impassioned debate with the leading foreign policy thinkers and practitioners of recent decades. The editors have done a wonderful job of bringing together a vivid mix of essays. Some are period pieces which bring us back to the heated debates of bygone times; others are analyses of pressing current policy interest; and still others are timeless meditations bon the conceptual foundations of foreign policymaking. All reveal the complexities and life-and-death challenges of international affairs and the making of foreign policy. The essays by Columbia University scholars that introduce each thematic area are gems of analysis as well as brilliant and witty guides to the great debates of their respective fields." --Jeffrey D. Sachs, Director of The Earth Institute at Columbia University

A landmark collection of interviews and articles. Statesmen and scholars share their best ideas, some before and some after they made their mark. Altogether, a fitting and remarkable tribute to the generations of SIPA students and faculty who have shaped this influential journal on international affairs. --Michael W. Doyle, Former Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations
