About the Author:
Manuel Teixeira Gomes was born in 1862 in Vila Nova de Portimão in Portugal. He was the son of a wealthy businessman from the Algarve. Working for his father, he travelled extensively in Europe and North Africa. When Portugal became a Republic in 1910 he was named Portuguese Ambassador to the United Kingdom. He was elected President of the Portuguese Republic in 1923 but resigned in 1925. He left Portugal in 1926 after the fascist military coup and never returned. He died in Bougie (French Algeria) in 1941. His Erotic Stories were published in 1999 by Carcanet.
