About the Author:
Dr. Gregory Schaaf is the Director of the Center for Indigenous Arts & Cultures in Santa Fe. He earned his doctorate in American History from the University of California. During a distinguished teaching career, he became an Associate Professor of Native American Studies. He testified before a U.S. Senate Select Committee on the origins of the Constitution, and he is the author of "The U.S. Constitution & Bill of Rights Series."

This volume profiles over 1,500 American Indian basketmakers over the past two centuries from the Southwest, Great Basin and California. This book was created with the cooperation of American Indian artists. Through personal interviews, archival research and artist surveys, information was collected in 25 fields, including the artist's tribe, clan, active years, type of baskets, lifespan, family relationships, education, teachers, students, awards, exhibitions, collections, forms, techniques, materials, favorite designs and publications.
