About the Author:
Dr. Gregory Schaaf is the Director of the Center for Indigenous Arts & Cultures in Santa Fe. He earned his doctorate in American History from the University of California. During a distinguished teaching career, he became an Associate Professor of Native American Studies. He testified before a U.S. Senate Select Committee on the origins of the Constitution, and he is the author of "The U.S. Constitution & Bill of Rights Series."

He co-founded the international Tree of Peace Society. The purpose of this book is to honor American Indian basketmakers and to provide a useful reference guide for collectors, museums, cultural centers, schools, libraries, and gallery owners. The goal of the design is to make it easy to look up an individul artist in 30 seconds or less. This volume profiles over 1,500 American Indian basketmakers over the past two centuries from the Southwest, Great Basin and California. This book was created with the cooperation of American Indian artists.
