Review:
Feb 06 This is a collection of the most emotive and awe-inspiring scrapbook pages and cards from all around the country. The fantastic thing about this book is that you get a wide range of ideas as the whole book is not written by just one author. Studying these layouts is really inspirational as not only can you scrap-lift the ideas but mix and match certain layouts to come out with something totally unique. With hints and tips galore, there is something here to improve anyone's skills! * minigallery.co.uk * Aug 05 Being an artistic, craft loving person, I looked forward to reading through this book but found it rather boring. Scrapbooking and cardmaking, in my mind, should be bright and cheerful. After all we are dealing with what should be happy memories and happy occasions. I thought the pictures uninspiring and the dark materials used did nothing to make you want to sit down and produce a scrapbook page or card. I think the ideas put forward in the book are a little dated. The popular monthly magazines produced on cardmaking and/or scrapbooking are far mor bright and cheerful. (Francesca - aged 15) * Education Otherwise * Iss 7, Jul 05 The aim of this title is to "inspire, share, and encourage" by showcasing British talent. It is a pleasant change to have a book by homegrown crafters, and encouragingly indicative of the growing trend of papercrafting here in the UK. Of course, we wouldn't be swayed by the fact that two of the designers are our very own regular experts, Mandy Anderson and Alison Docherty...in fact, there are so many gorgeous layouts adorning the pages that every designer's work is worthy of praise. the projects are well presented, with Materials, Tips and how how to make details, along with insightful quotes from the designer. Subjects put to the page include a cottage garden, a favourite car and an autumn sunrise - all of which showcase unique styles. Unfortunately for ardent cardmakers, this section has been put to the back. That said, the 10 pages of cards are brimming with well-designed, clean-cut examples that could be used for many occasions. A good value and motivational book that's a pleasure to pore over. * SIMPLY CARDS & PAPERCRAFT * April 05 Keen on scrapbooking and/or cardmaking and stuck for ideas? In this book are page layouts and cards by some of the finest to motivate you, and show you the latest trends. Leaf through this book and see all those interesting-looking items you see in craft stores and on websites put through their paces and combined in a multitude of pleasing ways. These are the winning entries of two contests, and therefore get ready to be inspired. There aren't too many words needed in here, and the layouts and cards are left to speak largely for themselves with just the minimum of descriptions - just the way it should be. This isn't just the work of professionals in here either, as most of the entries are by ordinary people some of whom are comparatively new to the craft. Each piece has a list of materials beside it, so you can pick out what you like and add it to your own stash. Days out, family moments, historic occasions are all documented, as are methods such as tag art, shabby chic, distressing, matting, eyelets and more. The same goes for the cards, which make use of the same methods (plus a few different ones) and cover a wide variety of occasions. The whole book is, as the description of the cover art runs, "fresh, funky and classy". * Myshelf.com *
