Riveting and hair-raising, this is the true story of ten ordinary men who volunteered and were assigned as members of a B-17 bomber crew. Tony the pilot, at twenty-eight, was the oldest. Louie was just nineteen. The rest of the crew were in their twenties. No crew worked harder than they did to complete their assignment and do their best to stay alive. Their job was to train and fly B-17's on fifty missions from June to September 1944. That's what they did, and they all came home. A rare documentation of all fifty missions, Five Miles High and Forty Below is a slice of American and world history never to be forgotten.

About the Author:
After fighting a five-year long drought that ruined everything for them, Bill Willams and his parent left the dust bowl of the midwest in 1935 and headed West. After high school, he and thousands of others enlisted in the Army Air Corps knowing the U.S. would be entering the war soon. Pearl Harbor was struck and Bill was ready to go. "We were young Americans just coming of age when our country needed us most. We'd seen our folks lose everything, and they bounced right back. They were the example we needed most. We joined up to stop the war, and to help those people in Europe who were overtaken and could no longer help themselves." At 92, Bill Williams lives with his wife Ruth in Cottonwood, California.
