About the Author:

Norman H. Murdoch, son of Salvation Army officers, has taught history at the University of Cincinnati since 1972. He is the author of numerous essays, articles and reviews; his books include: "A Centennial History of The Salvation Army in Cincinnati" (1985), "Origins of The Salvation Army" (1994), and "Frank Smith: Salvationist Socialist" (2003). With research grants he has traveled to many countries to study the Army, including Canada, Europe, Zimbabwe, South Africa, India, Chile, Australia and New Zealand. With his wife, Grace, Emerita Professor of Psychology at the University of Cincinnati, Norman Murdoch currently resides in Jacksonville, Oregon where he writes and treaches occasionally.
