About the Author:
Jose Sarney (Maranhao, Brazil, 1930) was president of Brazil from 1985-1990. He is a member of the Brazilian Academy of letters; his first book, Norte das Aguas, was published over 30 years ago. Master of the Sea, here in a masterful translation by Gregory Rabassa, has been published in numerous languages throughout the world.
