Some believe that rosthern is a mis-spelling of the intented village name of Rosethorn. Less disputed in the fact that Russian emigrants began settling there about 1892. Plans for the school date to about 1903. Elder Peter Regier was one of the principals. One of the early teachers gave up his job in a town called Quiet Life to come to Rosthern.
