These are books that demand reading- not because they are so enjoyable, but because they tell a story that needs to be shouted from the rooftops. This is one of them. The resources in our American churches are enormous, but they will be tapped only if the spirit of deep compassion, which moved the Dewey's, is somehow infused into more of our church members. Here is a book that is interesting and informative, but beyond that, demonstrates what a few of God's people are capable of accomplishing with faith, determination, and the willingness to be used by the spirit of God. On another cold day in March of 1998, I pause to sit on a rusty bench in the courtyard outside the pediatric section of the hospital in Marghita, Romania. I am drawn again and again to this place where it all began many years ago. High above, doves perched on bare branches silhouette against the sky. I struggle with my emotions as I hear their somber call. To me, they are mourning for the lost children who are imprisoned inside the hospital. Cooo, Cooo, Cooo.
