About the Author:
Born: April 18, 1949, Eugene, OR; has lived in the Willamette and Rogue valleys; graduated in June 1971 from the University of Santa Clara, Santa Clara, CA, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History; worked as a reporter and editor for local weekly newspapers; contributed articles on state history to The (Salem, OR) Statesman-Journal, The (Portland) Oregonian and The (Eugene, OR) Register-Guard; his work also has appeared in Oregon Business Magazine in Portland and The Wall Street Journal; he spent 15 years researching and writing his book; he has been seasonally employed since December 1976 by the Legislative Counsel Committee of the Oregon Legislature as a copy editor for bill drafts and other legal documents.
