Wheels Rolling--West, a salon of fine images from the West's finest rail photographers, explores the captivating qualities of Western railroading in engaging style. From the steam-diesel transitional years of the late 1940's and early 1950's through the first generation diesels of the early 1960's and the diesel's own evolution in the late '60's and '70's, Wheels Rolling--West offers a long, loving look at the land, mem and machines that make the railroads of the American West the most fascinating on the face of the earth.

Review:
Every once in a while in the railroad book review business, you run into a book that is so superb, graphically, that the contents seem secondary....If you don't like this one, I will turn in my typewriter and start chasin' butterflies. -- NMRA Bulletin, July, 1979

The art of black & white photography is alive and well and thriving on the West coast. The authors and contributors to this book are not only preserving but appear to be advancing the art of black and white photography. As one might expect, Wheels rolling--West is a railfan pictorial, but we've had quite a lot of rather good pictorials lately. What makes this one outstanding is its careful editing and meaningful and lucid text combined with some of the very best photography and most beautiful reprocution we've seen....The sheer quality of images in this book will knock your socks off. -- Railfan & Railroad Magazine, July, 1978:
